Trincomalee War Cemetery

North of Trincomalee town, on the road to Nilaveli lies the Trincomalee World War II cemetery.

303 graves, almost all from the World War II period can be found in this cemetery. A stroll through the graveyard brings visions of what it must have been like during the war. A striking feature is that a number of the people buried here lost their lives at a very young age.

Together in life and death. Two friends who died together are buried next to each other

Some of the graves from other cemeteries were transferred here. However, the grave of this naval man could not be located when the graves were transferred from St. Stephens Cemetery and thus a special memorial plaque commemorates this person
