Chatty Beach

Chatty beach is a tranquil beach situated on the island of Kayts in the Jaffna peninsula.

Due to the islands ringing the Jaffna peninsula and the shallow sea, the Chatty beach has hardly a ripple and feels like you are swimming in a lake rather than the sea.

The water is crystal clear and filled with little fish. There are summer huts alongside the beach and basic facilities are available for those who wish to spend a quiet evening dip in the Jaffna sea.

Buluthota Pass

The A17 highway is a road that connects the town of Madampe with the city of Galle. Winding its way through the Sabaragamuwa mountain range and skirting the Sinharaja forest reserve this a very scenic drive with plenty of photo opportunities.

While the central hills are well known for scenic panoramas, a lesser known fact is that similar vistas can be enjoyed in the Sabaragamuwa hills and the A17 highway is an easy way to experience this. The word highway is a bit of a misnomer since for the most part this is a single lane road winding its way through hills and forest stretches.

The Buluthota Pass is a winding stretch of road with 10 hairpin bends that climbs through the mountains between the towns of Rakwana and Suriyakanda. While the 18 hairpin bends at Mahiyangana are better known, the Buluthota pass offers equally beautiful scenery with the added benefit of having it all to your self - very few vehicles use the stretch between the towns of Rakwana and Deniyaya.

The mystic isle of Sri Lanka

The Pearl of the Indian Ocean, Taprobane, Serendib - the isle of serendipity; these are just some of the names that travelers over the ages have given to the island of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is located in the Indian ocean off the southern tip of India and consists of 65,000 square kilometers. The island is large enough to pack some of the most awe inspiring vistas and natural wonders while at the same time small enough to reach any part of it within a few hours travel.

Be it sandy beaches or ancient cities, rain-forests or wildlife safaris, panoramic hill stations or island hopping in the northern peninsula, all these are just a day's travel a way at most.

While Sri Lanka is fairly well established in the tourist trail, most travelers stick to the well known paths and the popular attractions. This blog will introduce you to some of the lesser known off the beaten track attractions that this island has to offer.
